finding my way-

years and years ago
when i was in junior high...
i discovered the joy of
hiking solo;
i would get home from school
throw on a backpack
stuffed with my journal and a pen---
and off i would go,
stopping along the way
to jot some poetry
in my journal.

usually i didn't get home
until dinner time!

being up around the
trees and fresh air
always cleared my head,
helping me cope
with the social anxieties
that every junior high kid
experiences!

hiking
comes
 natural for me;
growing up in a home
where my dad thought
camping meant
''backpacking'
with all our own gear---
and heading somewhere
 no one else
would ever, ever
 imagine going!! :)

(thank-you, Dad!)

my husband and i
hiked when we were
dating-
and then later
we hiked as a
young growing family;
we
took our daughters
 on many, many hikes
as they were growing up.

we continue this tradition
with at least one
hike a year as
a family.

this year,
so far
i have been lucky enough
to go on four hikes...

two hikes with family
and two hikes with friends.

the last couple hikes i did,
were so crazy beautiful...
it was easy to see why
my dad
used to say,
hiking was where he
 felt the closest to
God.

it was impossible
to look at the beauty around me
and not
thank our Maker for it
all!

God's handiwork was
 evident everywhere
i looked!

in the trees that sloped on the hills,
puffy clouds floating above me,
clear blue skies,
the sunshine glistening off the
icy lake,
the meadow bursting with flowers,
a bubbling brook,
rock formations that just begged
 to be climbed.

in it all,
everywhere i looked...
abundant beauty
surrounded
me.

thankful. blessed. grateful.
always.

weekend fun

a weekend filled with love.

my husband and i woke on saturday morning
and went to the near by bay to watch the tail end
of a sandcastle contest.
we went with our daughter and grandson...

after that we went up the road a bit
and walked/hiked down to the ocean
on a wooded trail.

we ended the weekend
by a good old riverside baptism,
yesterday after church;

nineteen people from our congregation
and our sister congregation,
were baptized.
what a beautiful thing to witness!

today i woke to rain slapping against
the windows & laundry piled sky high.
but, the joy from the weekend past
will carry me.

i will hold on to & cling to happiness!

i find that for me,
the good always outweighs
the ugly. :)

i look for and appreciate the good
that is in each day.
sometimes, i have to admit... it is harder than others
but, i do see the good!

so today, i pray today that you too
have joy that you can fall back on.

when the ugly seems to
be overwhelming.
when it seems like your back is against that wall;

i hope you can seek and find joy in your life.

and we hiked

yesterday we hiked
with our oldest daughter
and her son ( our two year old grandson)

we hiked table mountain
which is a flat topped rock like mountain
up by mt. baker;

it was a twisting and turning kind
of drive to get up there from our farm...
it took us about an hour or so to get there.

when we left home it was
overcast and almost a bit rainy
and when we broke through and
got up high enough,
the sun was out and it was
just amazing!

i kept thinking of the chris tomlin song
indescribable:

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea

Creation's revealing Your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

sharing a lot of the
amazing photos
i took yesterday-

i hope you too
have joy today!

what are you thankful for?

a beautiful Saturday, a beautiful life-

I woke this past Saturday with nothing...no plans, no obligations, nothing! I secretly hoped that I could snatch my husband away for a little hike, maybe some lunch and spend the day...just the two of us.
It started out with a hitch because the dear hubs had other plans...I wasn't too terribly excited about this since I was being stingy and wanted him to myself but, after a while we were free and we discovered this nice little path. At the top of the hill you could see part of the city... and in the distance the Pacific Ocean...it was a beautiful day for a hike, made more special by spending it with my husband, who even posed for a picture with me!

Sometimes it is the small things in life that mean the most...time with someone you care for, I would take that over monetary things any day...
A beautfiul Saturday spent with someone I love makes life...beautiful!
