mantle update

unbelievable,
i took before and after
pictures of my rec-room
and cannot find my cord
to download them from
the camera to the computer.

oh dear.

oh, how i love soft colors!

this thursday

we have had the guy here
all week working on my kitchen
we have no kitchen sink,
and we are using the bathroom one!

he promises it will be all hooked
up for the weekend!

i hope so
because right now
it feels as if i am camping!

in the living room i have a
make shift area for prepping food
because he poured my counter tops
and now is wet grinding and
then buffing it smooth
and finally he will finish with a
top coat and then some buffing with wax...

it will be amazing when it is done.

i am starting to get excited to
put things back in the 'new kitchen'

getting a new backsplash too...
soon. :)

we were planning to move right
into the adjoining bathroom
and remodel too,
so hoping the funds hold out
and we are able to do so...

we have been having quite the
weather here in the pacific northwest
in fact today the governor called for
a state of emergency because of
snow/ice...

it has been awful and my husband
has to work outside in it since
we own a dairy farm...
making sure pipes don't freeze
and the cows are safe and warm too.

no 'snow days' for him.
kids in the area haven't had
any school all week...
no fun playing in the snow for him
and me?
i am sitting by the fire
trying to stay warm and making
sure when he comes in
he has warm food and hot chocolate
at the ready!

on our way to get groceries...
in the evening after chores were done

yes, it does say 8 degrees

that is COLD!

and of course on monday
he had to help at the church
take down a stage in the children's classrooms
he had about an hour job to do...
and i went along
so he dropped me off
at the 50% sale at the thrift store!!

yes, i had an hour to myself
with everything 50% off...
oh dear...i scored!

so @ 50% off this is what i brought home

and i passed up a couple things that i am now 

kicking myself for leaving...

black booties for $3.00

two cardigans, a red one and an adorable taupe one

both of them for $3.50 each

a black mock turtleneck cashmere sweater $2.50

and then

i bought myself some grey yoga pants $1.50

and my hubs even got a sweatshirt 

for work $2.50

it started out
innocently enough-
with me just
searching for ideas
for my new renovated kitchen...

you know,
looking for cabinets,
& new kitchen lighting, sinks
and yes even kitchen barstools...

it has quite possibly
become a healthy addiction?!

i have just spent a
few of my lovely
saturday hours re-pinning
and re-pinning! HA

i guess the other
option would be to
actually get some laundry
done but, that doesn't seem
as inviting!

we got a bit o' snow
last night but, not enough
to really play in
just enough to be slushy
and icky as far as i am
concerned.

so hence the pinterest,
blogging and facebook
kinda day!

thrifty thursday

my thrifty finds for this thursday~

i have not been to the
thrift store for a while
and had the chance just
the other day as my hubs
and i went to town to pick
out light fixtures and tile
for our new kitchen renovation :)

so my finds for this week
are two amazing slouchy hats
and a striped cardigan

we live in the pacific northwest
and supposedly snow is in the
forecast for next week and well...
i personally can never
have too many slouchy hats,
boots or cardigans!

so i was a happy camper
when i ran across these
little finds!

the red hat has a sweet little crochet button on the side :)

i have been documenting
and documenting as our
kitchen gets remodeled
and i continue to live smack
dab in absolute chaos!

all the food from our cupboards
sit on our dining table
our pots in the spare room
and all the rest of items from
every drawer and nook and cranny
sits somewhere on the front room floor
yes, i did say chaos! ;)

i am getting so excited
to see the final reveal
it will be a while before
this happens but, when
it does happy dancing
will be happening! :)

and then of course prepare
yourselves my pretties for
some before and after posts! LOL

oh, Hello there Wednesday!

Hello Wednesday
you are here and half-way over already
today was a Granny/Gramps day
so J-man was here to play...that is always a fun day
when one of the boys comes to play! :)

I took advantage of some 'me' time
while Mark was playing with 'the boy'
and painted some poster board
you see yesterday I was at Lowes
dreaming of paint colors
I bought three samples of varying whites...
Valspar: Soft Silk, Sugarcane Pink & Fragile Blue
Suzanne from Privet and Holly said she was going to paint some
foam poster board and I was too cheap and bought just regular poster board
which was not that great, it curled as it dried...but still I was able to get
an idea of how the light will hit these paint samples in the two rooms I am
thinking of painting...great idea, so thanks to Suzanne!
So I painted it and I am pretty sure I already know
which one I like the best, the pictures I took do not show it as well as in person...
but, I really like the 'fragile blue' it is a grey, blue...oh so lovely.
Although I want to see it in different lights...I do like that Sugarcane Pink...oh boy this might be harder than I thought! :)
In this first picture it is: Sugarcane Pink, then Soft Silk and far right is Fragile Blue
the dark paneled room is our back entry way and it moves right into our family room...so I want both to be painted the same! Time to get rid of that dark entry!!! Yay!

I thought I would like the Soft Silk but it looks purple/lavender in here...ugh!!! I do like the Sugarcane Pink, it is more of a creamy sugar cookie color but, really my first instinct is the fragile blue...soft cloudy blue, in some places almost looks more grey...oh so soothing.
Now I have to actually make myself think about taking everything off the walls, and going out and buying paint and going for it! I will keep you updated. I am not sure how soon I will get to it...but at least I am on the right track! A perfect cure for the gloomy days while I wait for SPRING! :)

Have you done anything new in the painting scene lately? What colors do you lean towards? I am trying to break out of my red,green and yellows...and lean towards some lighter colors...how about you? Of course my hubbie said, "I like the green in the family room, it is perfect the way it is, why do you want to change?" ugh...
