friday fun

my daughter and i went
to the bank today
then we decided
to head to these two little
vintage/antique shops in
the nearby sweet little
dutch influenced town
that i do all my
banking and grocery shopping-

i scored a darling wicker purse
at least i think it is darling
and it was a whole four dollars. ;)

love the design on the handles
and the lining-
i could not pass this little beauty up!

in this little town is our
local annual county fair
it is going on this week-

i have been going to this fair
since i was in junior high
and hardly ever miss it...
i can count on one hand how many times
i have missed the fair in the 30+ years
i have been with my hubbie-
we always go at least one evening together
and when the girls were little,
once during the day to go on rides!
the smells always revive these
amazing memories!

last year we missed because
we were in europe...couldn't hardly
complain about that now could i? LOL
but, all year i kept saying
i felt like i missed my 'summer'
last year because, part of summer IS the fair to me!

because of my ankle/achilles surgery
i am unable to go to the fair this year,
pretty disappointing to me...
my daughter with the two year old
texted me asking if i wanted to go
with her and my grandson,
and i had to say no. :(

i am glad i did
because just hobbling with the cane
around the vintage shops
just wore me out,
truly wiped me out

i am hoping my strength returns
but, after my physical therapy
yesterday i was amazingly sore...
humbling to be sure
i need to accept that
i cannot do it all
and this is a hard one for me-

i need to let it go
to allow myself to heal
and to give it to God

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
~~~~~
may your weekend be wonderful,
shine
smile that smile of yours
and leave a little sunshine wherever you go!
Your purse is so cute! I love that little fine! Im sand you cannot enjoy the fair. But am praying for a speedy recovery for you.
Sounds like a wheelchair would come in handy for anadventure at the fair. Maybe you could borrow one.
Blessings
Are you talking about the Clackamas County Fair in Canby? yes I was there on Wednesday. It was fun, typical fair. Of course I had to have a corn dog, we might go back for the rodeo tomorrow night and eat some corn. YUM
My oldest grand daughter showed her rabbit. Last year she took best of show, this year she was 12th in her division. Good Job Faith.
Love the purse. Super cute!
Can you rent a wheelchair at the fair? We always go to the State Fair, and have had to rent wheelchairs several times for injured Big Kids. (We had 7 major knee surgeries in 7 years.)
I grew up near the State Fair, and don't think I've missed a year in over 40 years. We take the kids every September. :)
But ... confession here ... we have lived just a couple of blocks from this here county fair for 9 years and ... we have NEVER gone. (don't kick me) We can sit outside on our patio and listen to the concerts every evening. We can smell all of the fair smells. Our house is surrounded by parked cars for the week. But, the young ones and I stay home. We're okay with it. It just gets us excited for the state fair next month.
Today, though, we will take a walk over to the fairgrounds. We will stand outside the gates near the grandstand. And, we will watch a World Record be set. Did you hear about it? There are 10 semi-truck flatbeds all hooked together ... with 300,000# of hay ... for the BIGGEST hay ride EVER. An official from Guiness World Records has flown out from NY to officiate. So cool!
I say ... find yourself a wheelchair and get yourself over to the fairgrounds tonight with your sweet husband. You deserve some cotton candy (or how about a Deep Fried Oreo?).
Keep smiling!
Melody, that Achilles will leave no sign of injury in a few months- I promise. Keep going strong.
Nothing like physical therapy to make a body sore from head to toe! I've heard so many people that say they hate their physical therapists but love them when it's all over! LOL
Sorry you're going to miss the fair. Maybe someone will bring you some fair food over?
