in a blink

sometimes in a blink of an eye
things go crazy-

i started out this past tuesday
with a list of things that needed
to be done,
plans that i had for the rest of the week-

in a blink
a stupid, freak accident happened-

we have this old heavy floor length mirror
it has been in our family for 30 years...
it is large and extremely heavy

i have had it propped it up in
different rooms over the years-
i never really thought of it as
being that dangerous, even when
my girls were very small
it just was always propped up
in one of our rooms...

so yesterday,
this past tuesday-
i was in our library/craft room
walked out of the room for a minute
spun around walked back in,
the floor mirror was leaning in this room
behind the door-

in a blink

in a blink of an eye,
the door clipped or touched the mirror
and my back was to the mirror...
in that blink
that mirror fell and sliced my ankle
it fell just right...a freak accident.

i looked down and i had a huge gash,
like really ugly (sorry for the graphics)

thankfully my husband was home
he took me to emergency
where i stayed until today
when the surgeon had to repair
my achilles tendon where the
mirror had sliced over 50% of it...

to say i am thankful tonight
well, it is an understatement!
this accident could have been
so much worse...
in a blink of an eye
my week of plans changed
but, it could have been so much worse
and so tonight as i sit in my
recliner, happy to be home
happy to be alive
and loved...
i am thankful.

Ow! Jeez.. Thank goodness you're alright. It always seems like when I have plans and things need to be done, something urgent pops up. Baby gets sick, dog gets hurt, I get hurt...It goes on and on. Life has a way of reminding us to slow down. :)

Sorry about your accident. Maybe this was supposed to happen, you are to think...I hate to say that, but everything happens for a reason. Maybe you are supposed to ask your girls to come over and paint your toesies for you.

Man, oh man! I am so sorry for your injury. Life happens. So happy it wasn't more serious. Even in the midst of this inconvenience, He will enjoy ministering to you in your slower pace. :)

You have a huge heart, Melody. I say this knowing the horrendous pain I experienced early this year when I fell at home and broke my right elbow. I really respect your restraint.

I'm going to be praying for you, my dear girl. May you heal effortlessly, painlessly, quickly and perfectly. God bless you.
