time in a bottle

if i could save time in a bottle
the first thing that i'd like to do
is to save every day 'til eternity passes away
just to spend them with you
*jim croce*

oh time in a bottle
this song prompted me
got me to thinking
oh if only we could take those memories
those that make us happy, warm & fuzzy
and just lock them up
yes, lock them tightly in a bottle

time goes by and sometimes
it just plain rushes so fast
and life just happens while we are not looking
in a blink the present becomes our past
oh, how did that happen?

time, memories & experiences
mold and shape us
just like the sea-waves crashing against a rock
slowly, shaping that rock, smoothing the rough spots...
the good & the bad times
help to form us into who we are here and now

i do wish
oh yes, so much
that when i was in the middle of 'mommy-hood'
i would have known just how quickly it would go by
when you are smack dab in the middle of it all
it seems like it will be like this forever
sometimes i feel i took it all for granted
a mommy & daddy with three beautiful
little girls in their long braids...
i was just living & loving life
taking one day at a time
i guess i thought
that they would always be little
that i had lots of time
to say the right things
not be too busy for them
taking time to make
sweet memories out of
the simple things in life
just enjoying the time together
instead, whoosh there it went...a blur, really

if i could only have stored some of that time
hoarded some of it for myself
maybe i would have hid it in a bottle
because those days went by so fast
i blinked my eyes and standing in front of me
were these wonderful, beautiful, self sufficient 'women'
instead of three little daughters with their long braided hair

now, when i see my little grandson's faces
oh i want to lock up their
sweet faces, little voices, chubby little fingers & quick smiles
yes, i know how speedy time is

where is the lid for my bottle?
maybe i should invest in a lock, a padlock for a bottle...
yes, then i could save time in a bottle

i am off to give each of my daughters a call
and tell them how much they are loved
& tell my hubs i love him too!
life is beautiful...i plan to enjoy every minute of it
spending it with those i love!
oh yeah, and i am planning to search high and low for that
ever elusive bottle with a padlock! :)

just time in a bottle

Time passes so quickly. It seems like yesterday my grandchildren were babies and now the oldest is a teen! If I had one wish it would be that I did not have to work and could have helped with their daycare. I was able to help out with two of them, on my day off, for about a year but I would have liked to be more available to help with all of them.

Time...the never ending vicious race in life. Seems like we are always acing against it, getting as many life goals accomplished, in as little time as possible. And when you look back at time, it laughs at you... Where did that time go? Memories made with time are the most valuable, instead of against it. The memories made with the ones we love are the most precious. Melody-mae, If you find that bottle somewhere, I want one....it would be priceless to me as well. I'm still young, my children are young, not allowing time to pass too fast is my problem. Sure wish I had a bottle.

I wish I could do this with every moment...at least looking back. Not so much for all of them when I am in them. Your family is so beautiful :) I wanted to thank you for linking up to the Storytellers Blog Hop. So glad you did. Have a great one!!

Girl, when you find it, tell me where I can get one! I made a comment to our pediatrician once about at least one of the girls getting into bed with us every single night. He said, "Enjoy it because one day, you won't hear those little feet paddling across the floor to jump in bed with you because they'll outgrow it." Was he ever right! They sure did and I often strain at night to see if I can hear that little pit-pat pit-pat...sigh.

Love this post!! Time in a Bottle is such a great song but your poem is all about heart. I know there is a verse in the Old Testament somewhere that says God stores our tears in a bottle... maybe when we get to heaven we will find all our best moments in bottles too. Oh, wait, those memories are already in my heart. love you girlfriend!

Hi Mae...visiting from FTLOB writer's group: Yes, time does go by so fast! I remember when I gave birth to my son, everyone said told me it goes by so quickly. I remember how small he was when I rocked him to sleep and how chubby his cheeks were. Everyone wanted to kiss him. Now he's 5 years old and I look at him every day and ask, where did that time go?

Checking in from the writer's group. Thank you for sharing this beautiful post. Just like you commented, its theme is very similar to my poem...just from a different perspective.

Oh, Melody, this is lovely. My favorite part?

time, memories & experiences
mold and shape us
just like the sea-waves crashing against a rock
slowly, shaping that rock, smoothing the rough spots...
the good & the bad times
help to form us into who we are here and now

I love the imagery here. It's so true. Our lives are almost like a river rock, constantly changing with the ebb and flow of our day to day.

The idea that you might be able to lock time away so that it doesn't pass so quickly is one that we all wish for I think. And every year that passes time seems to get faster and faster. Strange.

Lovely poem! Thanks for sharing it and linking up over at The Lightning Bug!
