in my lap

i planted a little story seed
in the garden
of my daughter's hearts

every night
we read books
 and planted
seeds of love

a love for books,
words and stories
were planted...
they grew
night after night

stories were planted
in my lap
as we laughed and explored
the world inside those books

i planted a story seed
and watched it grow-
 it was
passed on to the
next generation

grandsons
now sit and listen
to the stories
in those books
and memories are made

i planted a little story seed
and watched it bloom!

How beautiful and so true. When Abby got home from pre-school yesterday she asked me if I would read to her, I replied with sure I will. She went back in her room and grabbed all of the books her little hands could carry. So I read them ALL to her lol.
Thanks for sharing!!

Isn't it wonderful how we are now doing things with our grandchildren that we used to do with our own children - and so life goes on, down the generations. I sing songs to my grandchildren that my dad used to sing to me, and they love it. Wonderful, especially the reading bit. My daughters and all three grandchildren just adore books.

As someone that read incessantly to my son, ha, I never thought of it like this before. Great job.

Oh, just beautiful! It makes me want to go pick up one of my favorite books are reread it. Given the beautiful reference to books and sharing a love of reading, have you read Gifts From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh? I gave it to my mom for Mother's Day a few years ago and we both reread it regularly.

Lift by Kelly Corrigan is beautiful too!

Happy seeing beautiful!

Excellent and so true !!!
That was so sweet ! The love of reading is a learned pursuit that becomes a passion in families. I love to see our grandchildren reading not just for school but for the pleasure of it too !

Lovely and true poem. Reading is so important. Parents should share books with their children - at any age.

I could talk about books with my father until the end of his life. I read aloud for him when he was blind. He had read for me before I learned how to read.

Best wishes,
Anna

I really loved the beautiful message here and the sing-song cadence of your words.

This was really a touching use of the prompt.

I really liked the way you wrote this.
