the meeting

they left their country
got on an airplane
and flew across the miles

they rented a bright, shiny
red sports car
and drove over an hour and half
to the farm,
a distant family's farm-

on this farm
resides a little guest cabin,
this is where they will sleep
and rest, travel-weary bodies

they will tour the farm,
dine with the family-
each side trying to understand
the other's 'accent'

they had never talked
or met before today
but, they are family
and that is all it takes

this couple who traveled
from their far away country
have a different surname-
the name was changed when
family members moved
from norway to the usa

it is family reunion time-

and this time
a couple, who we now know
is part of this family...
who traveled so many miles
to visit from another country,
this couple will be rubbing elbows
with family members
they have never met

there will be
laughing, eating and loads of games to play
and a time to reconnect with family

this year, welcomed into the fold,
a couple who has the same blood
running through their veins

and this is family

I love this piece! We have family that we've never met in Germany and I like to imagine our meeting would be something like this :)

*sigh* This makes me want to go to Ireland and connect with my family there...to be taken into their "fold." Excellent job!

My great grandfather left Puerto Rico at 12 years of age and barely talked about his family in Ponce. We don't know them at all. I wish we did!

Thanks for sharing this.
